CWA 1108

Our union getting involved in legislative and political action is vital. When we volunteer to for Labor Walks for union friendly elected officials, or when we participate in lobby days or mobilize to town hall meetings; we create the backbone and support our union needs to push for legislation that will not only help the Local 1108 membership, but all working people.

When you volunteer to help out the unions Political Action Committee or Committee on Political Education, you directly help grow the bargaining and lobbying power of your unions’ Political Coordinator and elected President. When an elected official witnesses great numbers of Local 1108 members mobilizing in support of legislation or candidate support, the political community instantly recognizes how valuable we are in the political process. And when we lobby for laws to protect working people, politicians often remember our political action efforts, and they know that when we care about an issue or a cause, we put our support where it is necessary.

Political Action to help our members and the community

Sadly, one of our members' daughter lost her life when an adult she was with gave her a controlled substance. When her body reacted negatively to the prescription drug, the adult she was with did not call 911 which lead to her death. The mission of Wishful Bliss is to inspire changes in the law that would increase accountability for individuals

committing crimes that cause serious harm to a person. There is no law that requires the individual causing harm to seek emergency medical assistance. Wishful Bliss looks to define criminal negligence to include an adult who knowingly fails to call the police or an ambulance in a life threatening emergency. This legislation will allow deeper investigations and bring accountability and punishment to those involved.
